Charles Sayers

About Me

Charles Sayers is an American mystery and speculative fiction author whose stories live at the crossroads of humor, history, and things that go bump in the night. His work spans cozy mysteries, Southern Gothic horror, comic fantasy, and Dust Bowl–era historical fiction — all united by his love of tightly woven plots, eccentric characters, and secrets buried so deep they’re dangerous. Born and raised on Long Island, Charles spent his formative years reading everything he could get his hands on: detective fiction, myths, roadside Americana, and garbage bags full of paperbacks his grandmother would hand off with a wink. Today he lives in Atlanta with his wife, Julie, and their goldendoodle, Baxter, who has strong opinions about pacing. Charles’s fiction includes the cozy mystery novel The Beer & Bowling Society Murder; the supernatural noir series Soul Eater: Maurepas; the puzzle-driven mystery The Cavendish Code; and a growing list of short stories such as Protect Your Plums, the award-winning By Morning, Rain (Winner, 2025 Writer’s Challenge), and Break a Wish (Honorable Mention, L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future). Whether he’s writing about con artists, cursed swamps, or tight-knit bowling leagues with too many secrets, Charles’s work blends sharp wit with slow-burn suspense
